He has long been dedicated to advancing the industrial design industry. He spearheaded 50 Beijing municipal‑level industrial design demonstration projects including Lenovo’s Tianqin, its first home PC; acted as curator for China Contemporary Art & Design Exhibition (1997, Ministry of Culture, for Hong Kong’s handover) and Perceiving China‑Design Beijing (2014, UNESCO, Paris, France), and served as chief designer of the “Science and Education Float” for the 50th National Day Parade. He founded the Beijing DRC Industrial Design Creative Industry Base, China Red Star Design Award and Beijing International Design Week, and led Beijing’s successful application for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Design. He also took part in drafting national ministerial documents such as Several Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of Industrial Design and the Report on Beijing Design Industry Statistics.
