Opens in Xiongan

On September 20, the eyes of the global design community once again focused on Hebei – the 2025 Hebei International Industrial Design Week opened at the Xiongan Green Building Exhibition Center.

The Hebei International Industrial Design Week is a key international and professional exchange and matchmaking event that our province has focused on building, and has been successfully held for seven editions since 2018. This year's Design Week highlights the concept of "Gathering global design, serving Hebei's development," with the theme "ENVISION FUTURE · NEXT-GEN INDUSTRY ." It continues to adopt the "1+N" model, with a main venue in Xiongan New Area and three sub-venues in Shijiazhuang, Dingzhou, and Xinji. At the same time, online channels are opened to expand the reach and influence of the Design Week through "cloud display" and "cloud live streaming." The sub-venue events are organically integrated and interconnected with the main venue, striving to create a professional, high-end, and productive industrial design exchange and cooperation event.

The Hebei International Industrial Design Innovation Achievements Exhibition, as one of the highlights of the Design Week, covers an exhibition area of over 8,000 square metres and features seven themed zones: the International Design Exhibition Area, the Hebei Design Achievement Exhibition Area, the "Xiongan · Design · Future" Exhibition Area, the Production System Design Exhibition Area, the AI Design Exhibition Area, the CMF Design Exhibition Area, and the Experience Design Exhibition Area. It attracted 330 enterprises from Denmark, Italy, Japan, as well as from the Beijing-Tianjin region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, showcasing 3,200 new design products. Innovative enterprises and design organisations such as Pantone, Xiaomi, Alibaba Cloud, Lenovo, BOE, and the European Product Design Award all participated, displaying design products in fields such as artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, next-generation electronic information technology, robotics, and CMF, as well as the latest achievements in the innovative upgrading of Hebei's characteristic industrial clusters and the construction and development of Xiongan New Area, allowing visitors to appreciate the unique charm and immense potential of industrial design. In particular, the specially curated "Xiongan · Design · Future" exhibition area is a major highlight of this exhibition. With the theme "Climbing Step by Step to Build the Future," it presents a three-part narrative – "Craftsmanship Memory," "Smart Innovation City," and "Digital Enlightening Future" – showcasing Xiongan's achievements in traditional craft upgrading, smart city development, and future industrial layout.

This year's Design Week brings together the world's top design resources and industry elites. Through display exchanges, matchmaking cooperation, and product going-global initiatives, it widely embeds the breadth and depth of the design innovation value chain, facilitates design matchmaking and cooperation, empowers industrial innovation, and injects strong momentum into the construction and development of Xiongan New Area and the high-quality development of our province's industries. The Hebei Design Achievement Exhibition Area features independent pavilions for clusters such as Shijiazhuang Electronic Information and Tangshan Highend Equipment Manufacturing, centrally presenting the upgrade path from "Hebei Manufacturing" to "Hebei Quality Manufacturing." This year's Design Week specially curates a series of international matchmaking sessions, targeting the pain points of industrial clusters such as furniture, fashion, and manufacturing, and invites design masters and renowned design institutions from Denmark, Italy, and Japan to engage in exchanges and matchmaking, injecting international momentum into the industry and helping traditional industries break through and develop. In response to the transformation needs of industries such as equipment manufacturing and food, it invites institutions in AI, CMF, and other fields to carry out technical matchmaking and build a collaborative innovation ecosystem for the industrial chain. Simultaneously, it launches a "design + industry + finance" service system, partnering with investment and financing platforms to create going-global channels, helping enterprises expand into global markets.

The main venue events in Xiongan New Area will continue until September 23, during which a series of activities will also be held, including the Goldreed Industrial Design Award ceremony, the Xiongan Design Digital Intelligence Field, the International New Products Launch, and the Denmark Design Matchmaking Session.

Design Masters' Keynote Speeches Full of Insights

On September 20, the keynote speeches of the 2025 Hebei International Industrial Design Week were successfully held at the Xiongan Green Building Exhibition Center. Centred on the theme "Smart Drawing the Future · A New Chapter for Industry," guests including Farukh Alimjanov, an official from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization; Thomas Garvey, Senator and Past President of the World Design Organization; and Wang Luping, Design Director of Alibaba Cloud, delivered inspiring speeches, jointly exploring pathways for design-empowered industrial innovation and sustainable development.

In his speech "Digital Industrial Design Centres of Excellence for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals," Farukh Alimjanov stated that industrial design is an important means of enhancing product competitiveness and promoting sustainable industrial development. Digital industrial design centres of excellence use intelligent and digital technologies to upgrade the entire industrial design chain, embedding sustainable concepts deeply into the product lifecycle and providing practical models for the green transformation of global manufacturing. Thomas Garvey emphasised that the development of world industrial design cannot be achieved without China's participation. In the face of global development, we must embrace innovation and adopt a more comprehensive and collaborative approach to support the earth's ecological balance and environmental protection, driving society towards a more sustainable and better future. In his speech, Wang Luping deeply analysed the changes that AIGC has brought to the design field, calling on designers to expand the boundaries of their capabilities, integrate product planning and technology development, and actively embrace AI to drive industry innovation. He said: "The combination of design and technology has evolved into a new model of 'design × technology.' The deep integration of design and technology will empower technology through design, promoting technology to serve society and human life in a more humanised and creative way."

This keynote speech not only brought internationally cutting-edge design concepts and innovation trends, but also injected new momentum into the innovative development of Xiongan New Area and the transformation and upgrading of Hebei's industries. The three guests, from theoretical interpretation to practical application, offered three design perspectives that included both forward-looking viewpoints and practical cases, providing strategic insights for Xiongan New Area to gather international design resources and build an innovation highland, as well as pathway references for the green and digital transformation of Hebei's manufacturing industry.

Italian Design Matchmaking Session

On September 20, the Italian Design Matchmaking Session of the 2025 Hebei International Industrial Design Week was successfully held at the Xiongan Green Building Exhibition Center. Nearly 100 people, including representatives of Italian design and representatives of Hebei's industrial cluster enterprises, attended the event.

Themed "Fashion Design · Traditional Innovation," the event focused on the design upgrading and international cooperation needs of Hebei's characteristic industrial clusters such as Baigou luggage, Qinghe cashmere, and Xinji leather. It invited renowned Italian designers and institutional representatives – including Vittorio Ceccato, Chief Strategy Officer and President of IDD Footwear Design; Manuel Frasson, Senior Designer of Fabio Verdi Design Studio; Maurizio Vrenna, Assistant Professor of Design at WenzhouKenan University; and Alberto Licandro, Chief Designer of ALBERTO Studio – to share cutting-edge fashion concepts and innovative practices, promoting deep connections between Hebei's traditional industries and Italy's high-end design resources.

At the event, Vittorio Ceccato delivered a speech on innovative concepts in footwear and leather goods design, explaining the outstanding pursuit of Italian design in craftsmanship, materials, and form, providing new ideas for the high-end and brand development of Xinji leather and Baigou luggage enterprises. Manuel Frasson, with the theme "Serene Technology: A Bridge Connecting Different Cultures," explored how to dissolve the barriers between technology and people through design, achieving unity of function and aesthetics, offering profound insights for Hebei enterprises in product intelligence and user experience optimisation. In his speech "Italian Design Philosophy: More Than Just Style," Maurizio Vrenna systematically analysed the historical context and cultural core of Italian design, emphasising that it not only focuses on external form but also pays attention to lifestyle, social culture, and the communication of sustainable value, helping Hebei enterprises understand the philosophy and systemic thinking behind design.

During the exchange and matchmaking session, representatives of enterprises from fashion industry clusters such as Baigou luggage, Qinghe cashmere, and Xinji leather engaged in in-depth discussions with Italian designers on pain points including process improvement, material innovation, and brand internationalisation.

The 6th Goldreed Industrial Design Award
Revealed in Xiongan

On the evening of September 20, the award ceremony of the 6th Goldreed Industrial Design Award was held at the Xiongan Green Building Exhibition Center.

The ceremony announced the final evaluation results of this year's Goldreed Industrial Design Award. Following two stages of rigorous review by domestic and international experts, the Tianzhou Warrior No.1 won the highest award – the Supreme Award; Huapu Yongming Distributed Street Light, SolarFlow 2400 AC Energy Storage System, QS-X Needle-Free Injector, iFLYTEK AI Dual-Screen Translator 2.0, and Jizhe ZIP Tri-Fold True Portable Projector won Gold Awards; EcoBIPV, Lingxi, and Scenic Beach Lifesaving Moored Airship won Future Star Awards; and 40 works including the Smart Agriculture IoT Training System, Smart Lawn Mower, and ReedBuilt Renewal – Xiongan Ecological Building System won Excellence in Design Awards. Notably, during the 2025 Hebei International Industrial Design Week, the award-winning works were displayed at the International Design Exhibition Area (Booth A02) of the Hebei International Industrial Design Week. From September 20-23, the public could visit for free by making a reservation. Starting in October, the award-winning works will embark on a national tour.

It is reported that the 6th Goldreed Industrial Design Award features two tracks: the main competition and a special competition.

The main competition attracted a total of 7,545 entries from 54 countries and regions worldwide, further enhancing its professional and international profile. Domestically, this year's Goldreed Industrial Design Award attracted renowned enterprises and institutions such as Hikvision, Haier Smart, Nubia, Mech-Mind, State Grid Xiongan, and Xiongan Group Ecology Company. Compared with previous editions, the overall quality of entries has seen a significant leap. Internationally, the Goldreed Industrial Design Award has continuously strengthened cooperation with overseas design institutions, platforms, and universities. The call for entries added four new countries – Montenegro, Lithuania, Norway, and Eswatini – bringing the cumulative coverage to 91 countries and regions worldwide. A total of 587 overseas entries were submitted, accounting for approximately 7.8%. In addition, for the first time, the ratio of concept group to product group entries approached a balanced 1:1, indicating a further enhancement of the feasibility of the submitted works.

The special competition is a newly added track this year. Focusing on 25 design requirements identified from Hebei's 107 key characteristic industrial clusters and the key industrial and urban development priorities of Xiongan New Area, it organised targeted design responses with a special "science and technology innovation voucher" prize pool of 1.4 million yuan. The aim is to further promote industrial transformation and upgrading based on the province's core leading industries and county-level characteristic industries, directly tackling the "last mile" challenge of transforming achievements into practical applications.

The Goldreed Industrial Design Award is an international and professional award in the industrial design field, supported by the Provincial People's Government and the Administrative Committee of Xiongan New Area. Together with the Hebei International Industrial Design Week, they are known as "one award, one week." Since its first launch in 2019, the Goldreed Industrial Design Award has attracted over 42,000 design entries from 91 countries and regions worldwide. Xiongan New Area's development momentum of "advancing steadily 'up a step'" provides a solid origin for the Goldreed Industrial Design Award. Rooted in this, the award gathers international innovation elements, promotes the deep integration of industrial design with various industries, and helps build the innovation highland of "Global Design · Launched in Xiongan · Made in Hebei."
